27 centuries of inspiration, passion, struggle and achievement have made Rome a palimpsest of many of the world’s most important historical events and monuments. Modern Rome offers all the cultural opportunities of a cosmopolitan metropolis. Rome is also a safe and walkable city of vibrant small neighborhoods and local markets. It is major transportation hub connected by air and train to big cities and small towns across Europe, and to both the seaside and mountains.

AIA Rome Center offers the resources needed to learn well, and it is part of an important community of study programs in our palazzo and neighborhood. AIA Rome Center is also an intimate environment, where students receive personal attention and don’t get lost in a crowd.
Our Neighborhood: the ex-Jewish Ghetto
The Rome Center is located in the ex Jewish Ghetto neighborhood a stones throw from the Tiber Island. The Ghetto is one of the most beautiful historic neighborhoods in the city, with narrow streets, generous pedestrian areas, a lively commercial scene and many restaurants. It is also still the hear of Jewish culture in Rome and houses the city’s main Synagogue and many traditional shops and eateries. Rising from the neighborhood’s medieval streets rise impressive ancient monuments like the Portico Di Ottavia and the Theatre of Marcellus. The 500 year old Fatebenefratelli hospital occupies the entire Tiber Island providing a picturesque historic structure and a modern medical center within steps of our facilities.
Palazzo Cenci-Bolognetti
The Rome Center is located in the Palazzo Cenci-Bolognetti in the heart of Rome’s Historic Center. Our facilities are just a few minutes walk from Trastevere, the Pantheon, the Piazza Navona and the Roman Forum. This spacious and architecturally dramatic complex in Rome’s historic former Jewish Ghetto neighborhood includes design studios, classroom spaces, program offices, computer/printing facilities, a special books collection, kitchen and break spaces. We can additionally offer access to library facilities, a terrace, and faculty work carrels in collaboration with the ISU Rome Center also located in our palazzo.
Classrooms
AIA offers both shared and dedicated, equipped classrooms and seminar spaces for 20-55 participants. AIA will reserve classroom space for regular courses and special events. Classrooms include digital projectors, whiteboards and typical AV equipment as needed.

Design Studios
AIA offers ‘hot lab’ design studio space with desks, chairs and lamps for each design student. Students have individual keys for direct access to design studios. Design studios are generally open from 7:00am to 11:00pm – 7 days a week.
IT Resources
Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the Rome Center facilities. Students and faculty can use AIA computers for web-browsing, word processing, printing, etc. Students and faculty have access to on-site b/w and color printers and copiers via a personal copy code. There are print shops for larger format printing/copying just minutes from the facilities.
