AIA hosted this International Conference for educators in the social sciences. The conference included a special visit to Herculaneum for a seminar with social historians and conservation officials.
Council of Europe Bern Convention – 2016/2014
The Council of Europe Core Group on Invasive Alien Species and the ISSG (Invasive Species Specialist Group) have twice co-organized a meeting at the AIA Rome Center to discuss the development of codes of conduct and guidelines on invasive species, zoos, aquaria, and hunting.
Tracing the Transcendentalists in Italy – 2015
Members of Trascendentalist Tours explored the writing and philosophy of New England Transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Margaret Fuller, through Sicily and southern Italy.
Herculaneum Conservation and Development Workshops
International Conference 2010 & Workshops 2010-2015
This ongoing series of workshops included a 2 day international conference of experts to introduce students to a broad context of conservation and development issues in the city and territory that surround the archeological site of Herculaneum, at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Participants focus on issues of conservation, museology, and urban and economic development. Recent workshops investigated broad territorial development issues related to transportation, trade, agriculture and territorial economic development.
Frugal Architecture – 2010
Conference and Design Workshop for Emergency Shelter
AIA faculty and students from Northeastern University, Boston collaborated with peers from American and Italian universities in a workshop dedicated to design research for emergency shelters for the victims of the earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy. The one-week symposium and workshop was sponsored by La Fondazione Bruno Zevi with the Association of American College and University Programs in Italy (AACUPI) and the Facoltà di Architettura di Roma Valle Giulia.
